It is natural to pause and look back on the year that is ending today. So, here are my reflections on 2018. It was quite an eventful and important year in my life, both personally & professionally.
The year started on a great note as the medical emergency of my family member got resolved. This allowed me to rejoin SAP Concur in January 2018. I will forever be thankful to the organization and the people that made it possible.
The team spent a lovely time in Seattle kicking-off the new business year and strategizing for 2018. The Chinese New Year celebrations were upon us as soon as we returned to Singapore. And, then Match came and went by. It is not too surprising that Q1 sales productivity took a
My family also returned to Singapore in April, and my son resumed schooling at the Global Indian International School. He is in 10th class (O-levels) and will write his board exams in March 2019.
Q2 saw business pick-up steam. We closed some excellent deals – some on our own, some in partnership with our SAP & other L-o-B colleagues. The trend continued in Q3 and Q4, and we “closed won” all the deals in the pipeline by 26th December 2018!
I am delighted that many marquee customers chose our solutions for their spend management requirements! I can’t name the customers due to confidentiality-reasons; however, I am humbled that these customers are among the world’s best in their chosen areas of business.
Winning a large deal and being part of the winning team gives you a natural high and a renewed sense of self-confidence! These experiences also reinforced another fundamental truth – winning is a team effort!
As a salesperson, I carry the quota and get to enjoy a lion’s share of the credit. However, no deal can be won without the concerted efforts of a diverse group of people – technical consultants, implementation leaders, legal & operations experts, sales colleagues from other L-o-Bs and, most important of all, the customers themselves.
If I were to distill the entire year in one word, it would be #Gratitude! My sincere thanks to my family, colleagues, co-workers, customers, partners, and random strangers who have helped me during the year, knowingly or unknowingly.
Hopefully, I’ve also matured through these experiences and will continue to do so in the years to come!
Here’s to 2019!
